six mile wood

There is a bunch of wood in six mile. Every time the river rises it moves. There is dangerous wood in class 2 and 3 rapids. Ran into a group that had a close call today. Two paddlers apparently paddled and swam into a channel wide strainer in a class 3 rapid below "waterfall". One boat was caught on...

Seattle Jan 10th or 11th

Todd Tumolo and I are looking to paddle some class III to IV+ on Friday the 10th, or Saturday the 11th of January. We have no transportation but will gladly pay for gas(and beer). We will be in Seattle. I've done the Green River Gorge and would be excited to do that again, or something similar. Gane...

Re: Black Canyon and the Gunny Gorge

i got poison ivy pretty bad, but it came a week late. Either I got it in zion, had a delayed reaction, or it got on my gear and effected my skin later. We hiked in SOB gully which cut off 85-90% of actual black, but we also got an additional 5 miles of the "Gunnison Gorge" which basically begins aft...

Re: Cataract Canyon

I've spent a bunch of time in there this year. Two trips at 10,000 ish cfs... In typical fashion I used Roman's route (Red Lake - Spanish Bottom - Colorado River - river left above Calf Canyon) except I started and finished at Elephant Hill. I did it in 16 hours. Put a hole in my boat with my metal ...

Black Canyon and the Gunny Gorge

Todd Tumolo and I went in there a couple weeks ago. Get a free backcountry permit and sign the board, required to have a toilet system. For the Black Canyon we scouted rapids and ran (1.5 out of 5) with empty packs. We paddled with packs on our backs to save time on easy moving water (basically we w...

Fantastic run. More continuous then I expected, AW and this forum were the resources I used. It was running at 1550 cfs and that felt fabulous, I'd imagine it would get pretty hairy at 3000. I boat scouted everything except pipeline and the first ledge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlZsVm__Its&fea...

My friend Diana and I took packrafts down to the Colorado in Canyonlands. We rafted about 10 miles of flat water, before The Confluence, and a few more miles of flatwater afterwards until we ran the first 8 rapids of Cataract Canyon. This was Diana's first overnight backcountry trip ever, she had fu...

Three Videos I haven't taken a packraft down a river since early June. Why the heck am I packrafting in Vermont anyway? Kayaking has taught me many things, but I'm better in the packraft.
