Re: Lockhart/Colorado/Ruster loop - Canyonlands, Utah

Here is a link to a .gpx file of the route. http://straightchuter.com/am-content/CandyHart.gpx Right click, save as, then read it back into a map program or GPS. Two other notes: 1) Stay hard left (south) at the end of Lockhart Canyon to avoid the horrendous Tamark overgrowth 2) When ascending India...

Lockhart/Colorado/Ruster loop - Canyonlands, Utah

Illegal, illegal, illegal.

Don't get me started. We specifically went out of our way beforehand to obtain any and all permits, talk to a ranger in person, carry maps, compass, gps, leave detailed plans, etc..

Re: Glue & home repair kits?

I ended up using MEK and a two-part urethane glue from our local rafting store and it worked great. The fumes destroyed most of my childhood memories, but it was worth it.

Re: Packraft Rating System

I think with the higher end of the whitewater, that regardless of the system used there needs to be some accurate flow data. 6 mile is the perfect example. saying it is PR 4 or class 3-4 is meaningless unless you say it is that rating in July or October. But at the low levels, sure - 20 mile will a...

Re: Packraft Rating System

I like the idea of having a separate and open ended rating system for PackRafting. The boats are similar yet very different than kayaks, canoes or big rafts and when I'm considering a river, I want to know what other packrafters thought of it. I also think it is essential to have it open ended as th...

Re: Glue & home repair kits?

I 'd be carefull with untested glueing. I have had lots of troube with it. After a long search and lots of calls I found PVC glue which claimed being adhesive to PU as well. It was, but the contact glue peeled off when it got hot. I now have no tie downs but uggly spots on my boat :( Exactly what I...

Glue & home repair kits?

I've found lots of info for in-the-field repairs, but have some questions about how best to repair and/or modify a packraft in the warm comforts of a home. I recently purchased a Yak and two extra tie-down pads. As I wasn't sure where I wanted the pads placed, I didn't have them installed by Alpacka...

Re: Packrafting in Utah?

I'm sold on the concept, I just need to sell some gear to finance my Packraft. :) Do they do well in shallow, rocky water? I'm assuming they probably will because of the shallow draft, but wonder how tough they are. I'm also wondering about spray skirt vs. not. I'd like to be able to jump in/out and...

Re: Packrafting in Utah?

Andrew, dunno about Utah but I use them for similar fishing access in Oz. BTW - if you are A.M. the ski mountaineer, did you ever eat that vegemite ? Just the Kiwi version - Marmite, which is pretty good once I learned how to eat it. My first attempt involved loading up a piece of toast with about ...

Packrafting in Utah?

Hello - this is my first posting here, so please take it easy on me.. :) I'm interested in buying a Packraft, but as I don't know that much about their capabilities was wondering if anyone knew what the packrafting potential was in Utah. I live in Park City and it seems like there are plenty of litt...
