Re: Packraftin Pack - Revisited
I would just use whatever pack you fancy and then when you take to the water shove the whole thing into a dry bag. I use a massive 90l one from Sea to Summit that works fine.

It is harder to use than a normal video camera and expensive though. GoPro Hero HD for the water scenes. All packrafters should go buy one of these today! (Inclu...

I use an inflatable one, and am aware of the risks. It's a compromise.

Re: A Message from the Alpacka Designer: Mods & New Boat
I think Hig makes a really good point here: packrafts are compromise boats. They might be for pushing the limits in compromise (multi-aspect) expeditions, but they are not the best option for serious rivers; nor are they an ideal thing to have to carry over mountain. Compromises. But wonderful! Alas...

I pack mine as tight as I can. No probs even in sub-zero winter trips.

I'm afraid I can't help, but I think Packraft rental would be a great idea - they are expensive to buy for perhaps one-off expeditions so I think a rental system would really work well...

Re: wanted: tIps for choosing the right gear
Hi there, I just crossed Iceland and my friend's Yak was carrying a 40g backpack on its bow and did great. The spray decks are a little bit tight I find, but you definitely need one if you want to do any white water. The deck is basically on permanently. You will be fine on Grade 2 water in it. Lots...

I'm really impressed with these detailed descriptions you take the time to give. I only wish I didn't live on the opposite side of the world to Alaska!

Anyone in the UK?
Is anyone who uses these forums in the UK?
I would love to meet someone in England who has a Packraft so that I can see one before buying!
Also interested to learn if there is anywhere I can buy one except from Alaska...
Thanks!
