Re: South Fork of Eagle River

South Fork is a wild ride at current level. Water up at least a foot from week ago. Triple Drop now has 4 drops, 2nd one less than last year. 4th drop a bit tricky. Some good size holes below this point. Our put in @red bridge. Two wood related must portages before going under road.

Re: Glacier Creek; Chugach Mtns.

We found your gear, we returned a paddle and kayak into REI yesterday. The boat was upside down on a gravel bar. The seat was cracked but the hull is intact.

Re: South Fork of Eagle River

Agree with HH above, with amplification. The hard left before the road on the lower section makes it difficult to see the log until your upon it. Its best to pull out 300-meters before the bridge and scout carefully. If you wait until you see the log its too late as there are no eddies. Scouting on ...

Re: Kern Creek the Hard Way

We went up Kern last year. It's a tricky entrance but very fun. Danny Crow ran Snake Back, it was a nozzle on steroids at that level. The entrance is narrower than packraft with a rock wall that could easily be trouble. Danny nailed it, check it out on YouTube. We all ran Beer Can, it's a clean falls.

Re: South Fork of Eagle River

We ran the South Fork of ER on Saturday and had a blast. Lots of twists and turns make the SoFo feel like a Le Mans track with the pedal down. The Amazing and durable Alpacka rafts are the perfect boat for this type of narrow obstacle filled water. I almost swam when high centered on a boulder, but ...

Upper Little Susitna

We hiked up the Gold Mint trail and put in over 3-miles in. There are fast straight stretches; "crash and burn" is a distinct possibility with the gradient. The part we did has a different character than the stretch below Mother Lode. It can narrow up on a sharp turn into a high-octane staircase, sc...

Echo Bend, Low Flow. May 2011 - Video

We floated Echo Bend at low flow May 19. We think it was about 320 CFM but the gauge has been out, and perhaps unreliable prior to then. It was lower than when we ran it with Doug V, Toby, etc. September 25, 2010, when it was ~370 CFM. Three of four of us swam. Cannot imagine having more fun than on...

Re: Broken Aqua Bound Paddle...Uh oh

The glue that holds the two paddle halfs together on my Splat failed last week after running Echo Bend. I called The mfg and they mailed me a replacement yesterday. Excellent customer service, just hope it arrives before the weekend.

Re: Kokatat semi-drysuit vs. Drysuit

Akjohn, Appreciate your response. I am coming to similar conclusions as you after using the SN 10 times this year. I went swimming twice on Saturday on the South Fork of Eagle River in my SuperNova and it definitely let's the water in the loose fitting neck... And doing the same on the Willow. I am ...

Kokatat semi-drysuit vs. Drysuit

Roman et al, Would like your opinion on kokatat suits. I am wondering if you think the Kokatat SuperNova is an advisable purchase with regards to safety, as compared to the Kokatat Goretex drysuit? As you know the SuperNova is lighter and more comfortable as I tried both on today. Weight is consider...

Brad, did you find out if packrafting from Ship Lake is a good trip? It is awful tempting looking down on the lake from Ship Pass. Thanks, Will Watson
