Re: Cost to Coast - Scotland

David,

How many miles/day did you do on River Spey and how hard were you working to cover that distance. I'm planning a trip from Loch Spey to Kieth in Oct.

Trip Planning

What type of speeds do any of you use when planning a multi day pack rafting trip? Obviously there will be a difference if paddling flat water, a slow flowing river, a fast flowing river or tidal waters, but is there a rough guide that some have used that has proved accurate?

Paddling River Spray

I was thinking about trip up to the River Spray this spring to get more familiar with my Denali Llama. I would walk in from Tulloch to Loch Spray and then paddle as far as Aviemore and get the train back to London. Anyone familiar with it in the spring and have any idea how long one would expect to ...

Re: Hammocks, tarps and tents

Andrew, Although hammocks are quite comfortable they necessitate more weight than you first proposal. While I would agree that Andrew is correct, there is not a significant enough difference to offset the increase comfort that can be achieved in a Hammock. Under quilts, while the preferred option, ...

Re: Would-be newbie saying hello

Hi Benm, I’m in the same boat(ha!) as you. I live just outside London and my Denali Llama just arrived last month. I’m in the process of learning how to paddle it. Granted, I have only had my boat for a month, but I’m having no issues getting comfortable in it. I come from a canoeing background and ...

Two Drysuit Questions

Anyone have experience/impressions with eVent vs Gortex drysuits?

I’m in the middle of “A Long Trek Home” (and really enjoying it!), and the Alpacka’s prototype drysuits are mentioned. Any idea if they will be coming to the market?

Re: The Amazon

Floating the Amazon from source to sea in a packraft sounds cool and an epic adventure. *Walking* seems just unnecessarily painful. No kidding! I watched this when it came out in the UK. At one point another guy joins him for a few weeks. As they are walking through a flooded part of the jungle and...

Re: partners in the UK

Hello to the UK packrafters! I have my first packraft on order and it should arrive this week. I'm in the London area (Northwood) and would love to get your feedback on places to use it. Most of my vacation time is spoken for this year, but I will be looking for trips next year. I'm not a native so ...
