Re: Little Susitna
There appeared to be some gauge anomalies happening after the flood until just recently, but it seems to be reading correctly now.

Re: Palmer to Sutton--Bikeraft Loop
One other option for this trip is to ride the old railroad grade from palmer to moose creek on a reasonable trail and float downstream from there, or walk up to the highway and continue up to sutton. Ive ice skated from moose creek to above king river but never really looked at the rail grade real c...

Re: Chickaloon River Advice
1. Dont park anywhere near the chickaloon river if you want to come back to an intact vehicle. In the past lots of rigs tend to get broken into and vandalized and so on. Theres also one person in particular in that area who likes to be confrontational and tell you its all private land and tells you ...

Re: Vacationing with my packraft in Hawai'i?
There are a handful of rivers that are worthwhile there, but anytime you encounter fresh water or salt water near a river mouth there you are exposing yourself to some pretty serious microorganisms. Check out this article titled seven surfing sicknesses on the Transworld site. http://surf.transworld...

Re: Late season trips
Yeah the knik hunter creek. The from the bridge to the knik and then a few miles on the road side of the knik and then take out at the aairboat dock. The knik is obviously flat water.

Late season trips
Wanted to compile a list of rivers that have adequate flow in the late season near anchorage. I saw the post about echo bend and i saw that hunter creek still has enough water. Does anyone else have suggestions? Aaron

Fishhook creek in hatcher pass
Fishhook creek is a cool little stream to run if the su is running too big. The top and bottom are fun Iz dont know anything about the middle except that it looks very stony, . Top put in. Hike downhill from the fishhook parking lot at base of marmot mountain put in below the confluence near the bea...

Re: Little Susitna
Little Su is still doable and very scenic at 120 cfs in the lower section. Put in 150m below the mp 10 sign. probably want to portage the death ferry. Take out shortly after you come to the pool next to the rock wall on the left. there is also enough water below mp9 until you get to the bridge falls...

Re: Little Susitna
One alternative put in i like is at the ski hill parking lot mp 12 where fishhook creek pours into the su. It avoids the boniest upper section but lets you hit the nice drops between there and the campground You can go a ways below the campground to mp 10 andntake out near a fallen tree on the right...

Matanuska river boat and blade
A mellow float and rollerblade on the matanuska. Put in at the old glenn bridge outside palmerand float down about 4.5 miles on flat but reasonably swift water and take outon the leftside near a pile of large boulders on the side of bodenburg loop road. Rollerblade about a mile back to the old glenn...

Chickaloon matanuska valley public transport
The good folks at the chickaloon tribe are operating a public transport from palmer as far up the valley as king mountain lodge. If you dont have wheels or want to save some gas money this is a great way to get out to streams along the glennhwy like moose creek king river chickaloon river aand the m...

Re: Bikerafting/flotation
The best and least obtrusive solution for flotation on a bike ive seen is to wrap the frame tubes in the thickest foam pipe wrap you can buy. It takes surprisingly little of this to float a bike, and weighs just a few ounces. Go to an actual plumbing supply shop for this the stuff at lowes/HD is too...

Re: Ice skating with packraft assistance
I had nordic skates which the blades clip off the boot, there were 2 channels to cross and I did it in february of this year. You could actually skate all the way from king river to the salt water at that point, though the only water crossings were between sutton and palmer.

Ice skating with packraft assistance
One more use for your packraft: Crossing open water channels while ice skating on frozen rivers. I used one to cross the channel on the matanuska this winter while skating from Sutton to Palmer. The tricky part is the getting in and out, it helps to have something to anchor to the ice like a screw o...
