Nugget Creek, Juneau

Ray and I ran mid upper nugget today. Took East Glacier trail up to just under the first waterfall and walked a steep creek down to Nugget. First Rapid, Bumble Rock, was steep creek style...class III. Think wide Peterson style rock hopping. Then short rumble of Class II, followed by 2 miles or so of...

Harley River, Haines Ak

Launch skiff from Letnikov or State park. Head 11 miles south, past Glacier Point. Harley Creek is the drainage for the south access of the Davidson Glacier. Or just the next drainage south from Glacier Point/Davidson. Harley, then Davidson...Clever. This river is hard to describe. Jake and I ran it...

Davidson River, Glacier Point, Haines Ak

Kinda like a road run, Southeast Style. Launch your skiff at the state park or Letnikov. Head south a few miles to Glacier Point and the Davidson Glacier. This area hosts a guiding company that offers motor canoe tours. Park your skiff on the sandy beach and give the guides a ring on your VHF, you'r...

Chilchoot river Haines Ak

Very short river running from Chilchoot Lake to Lutak in Haines Alaska.

Class I to II. It can be fun to surf the waves and play in the rock gardens. It's not bad for an after work fix.

Baranof river, Baranof warm springs, Catham Straight

Baranof River is located in the town of Baranof Warm Springs. Mid way along Baranof Island on the Chatham side. The river cascades into the bay along hot springs. A trail leads you up to a 2 mile long lake. B.M Hussey, G Spargo, and I hiked the trail, paddled the lake to the upper river. Then brush ...

Peterson

Tannin rich clear creek...the water is warm! Peterson creek feeds out of Peterson Lake. Rain Dependent. Use Montana creek gage. http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?gage=mcaa2&wfo=pajk There are a couple sections of this river that look like they go. Yesterday Lee P. and I ran the middle se...

Re: Lemon Creek!

River is sitting around 8.2ft. Ran lower Canyon. Class III+ with class IV consequences. I took the sneaker path on the right side of first major rapid. Lee opted for normal line in his Hard shell. Scout rapids from road. Be careful of wood. Things shift in here and flow is a major contributor. An ex...

Re: Lemon Creek!

Ran this afternoon with Lee P. Big river wide log thing right after constriction before Pleasure Nozzle. 9 Feet on gauge, you can sneak by it on right. At any lower flow it would be a wall and you would be swept under it and into Pleasure Nozzle. Not advisable. Actually really sketchy. If you run th...

Re: Eagle River

You can put in at the lake and run and short II+ section. Watch for the horizon line and eddy out before the falls. There is a short trail that you can take around the falls. Even at low flow that waterfall looks like it recirculates most of its water. I wouldn't run it, but I'm a wimp. Like all the...

Herbert River

Herbert is a great day trip worth the drive. I ran this a few times last year. I do't have current beta so expect some changes due to rock shifts and wood forming. I don't think I will have to time to post a better report before leaving for the summer. So here is "better than nothing". I have not ru...

Re: Lemon Creek!

I would say this is my favorite after work run. Low water class II-III, high water III-V. Access is tricky for this one. Either do the do good and walk in on trail behind home-depot (river right), or call ahead to the blasting office and make sure you can walk in on their haul road(river left). I ca...

Re: Mendy Laps

Versatile river. This is probably the closest thing to a beginning run in Juneau. If you are starting out here is the place to practice your skills. Drive to West Glacier trial head and put in to paddle across lake. Once river starts expect Class I for a short while. Once you make a big right run an...

Looks like they use the NRS floor so would more than likely share a similar design? Anyone using these?

Farragut River, Farragut Bay

Out of Petersburg Ak. Due to an unfortunate Zodiak popping incident I was not able to run this one. Ben H. and Garret S. were able to find their way 4 miles up river. They reported class I glacier river. Not heavy on wood. Great game/hunting trail. Roman Dial and a few other ran this years ago with ...

Chuck River, Windham Bay

Here is an exciting thing in my life. Windham Bay, about 70 miles south of Juneau offers the Chuck river. A high-ish flow clear creek. It appears to support a pretty healthy Elk and Elk hunting population so there are great game trails to follow. Lower mile of river is class I. Scouted one mile past...

Sweetheart creek, Gilbert Creek, Gilbert Bay

Sweetheart and Gilbert both feed into Gilbert Bay inside Port Snettisham. Gilbert creek is nothing but a shallow clear creek. Not bad for a quick swim, but not enough water movement for boating. Sweetheart is a short and steep clear creek. The first 1/2 mile of creek has several powerful and wood fi...

slocum

Slocum bay, a popular anchorage for our gill netter community has a creek in the back. On maps it has a favorable slope. In reality expect 4th class bush wacking, bumpy class I clear creek, and log jams every 60 feet or so. With a lot of saw work it could be cleared up for a fun beginner run, but be...

Mendy is quality low right now. No sweepers. Upper section to dog pool is clear of wood and fun up creek paddling. Come practice your eddy hopping skills before the rain brings water levels up. Class II right now.

Lemon Creek!

Anyone paddling here? Juneau my friends. Lemon is quality low right now. One river wide sweeper with easy portage. Canyon seems to have blow out its wood from last season but have yet to run it due to unreliable partners.

Expect ClassII with a ClassIII pleasure nossle.

Re: 4day/3night float?

Drive on over to Tok. Then head on up to Eagle. Park your car at the Yukon take out. Hitch or ride bikes back to the O'brain creek D.O.T station. Walk under the bridge and put in on the 40 Mile creek. I ran it last year really late and it seemed liked like it would be class II to III- at higher wate...
