Re: Gnu solo with a single blade?

Thanks for this report. All these trips were with a single blade - even your sister the novice? Also how did you have the boat set up - kneeling or? If you did get a skirt would you be in the rear cockpit? I have though it might be interesting to have a custom skirt made with a centered cockpit. I k...

Re: Double Duck v. Explorer 42

OP, I'd go with whichever has the most floatation as I think either boat is on the marginal side for the uses you present. I liked the extra bow volume on the Explorer 42. Packraftnm, There are 2 Explorer 42's in Pecos (one of which I sold them). They are decent in whitewater with the right rigging....

Re: Gnu solo with a single blade?

Hope is still alive on this. I hadn't given up but felt that a trip to Mancos was in order to try my hand at this. Thanks for reporting back and I look forward to hearing further reports.

Re: Gnu solo with a single blade?

Thanks for trying Mike. I've become proficient paddling my IK with a single blade using J and C strokes. The waterline on the Gnu is longer so I was hopeful. Sounds like it might not work. I guess I'll have to get up to Mancos to try it.

Gnu solo with a single blade?

I'm curious if anyone with a Gnu has tried paddling it solo with a single bladed paddle. Nancy at Alpacka says it works great solo with a double blade and could work with a single blade. I'm hoping the extra length would make this possible. If no one has tried it would someone be willing to? The boa...

Re: Western Arctic Rivers: Utukok, Kugururok, Noatak

Roman (or anyone else with info), I work for a conservation group which has been deeply involved in the NPRA drilling issue. Several of us have an interest in floating either the Utukok River or the Kokolik River in late August/early Sept. I know you’ve been up there more than once in June. Do you k...

Re: fishing model and modifications

I was wondering if it was an extended version. Is this what you mean by "oversized"? If so, how much length did you have added? Do you notice any difference in hull speed etc.? I'm thinking of getting an extended Llama or Unrigged Explorer and am wondering what others experiences are.
Thanks,
Todd

Re: Gila Wilderness

Unfortunately the snow pack isn't what we'd hoped for earlier this winter. I'm guessing there will be one flush sometime in early March but it will run by quickly and not be too big. Have you been on those creeks before? I haven't lately and haven't been since being aware of packrafts. But I'm skept...

Re: fishing model and modifications

Steve, What can you tell us about that newer model boat with the black tube extension? If you have any more photos of it I'd be interested in seeing them.
Thanks,

Re: New stuff for 2011 from Alpacka!

I’m interested to know if anyone has info/experience on which (if either) the Llama or the unrigged Explorer tracks better or is faster. I’m thinking seriously about getting one of the newly designed boats and am trying to determine which best fits my needs. I’m mostly looking for an ultra low water...
