Re: Echo Bend, Eagle River
Echo Bend was at a fun low level on Sunday 9/27. Not too scrapey, either. The water was bluish gray and was translucent. There is a logjam that must be portaged just after the first rapid, no other wood, though. Looks like the water is coming up, so that could change. The water seemed higher than wh...

Re: Echo Bend, Eagle River
Last year when I ran it a couple times and looked at it at different levels in the spring and summer. 3.5 was about the lowest that it seemed feasible, and at 4 the water was pushy. For reference in 2014: At 3.5 you could squeeze through all of the boulders (just barely in places) minus the largest ...

Re: Lion's Head, Matanuska River
Packrafted Caribou Creek Bridge to Glacier Park Saturday. The Glacier Park gauge was at 1.35 ft. A few shallow areas on Caribou Creek; other than that there was more than enough water to float. At this low level the water felt 2+/3-. Ice shelves had formed along most of the banks, but it didn't caus...

Re: Curry to Clear Creek
I just did this trip May 17th and 18th. I was told the train leaves earlier this year. The Hurricane Turn now leaves at 12:45pm from Talkeetna. It costs $20 for AK residents. The ATV trail from below the quarry was in decent shape, with sections of mud, snow, and standing water. Shortly after Lane C...

Re: Echo Bend, Eagle River
Ran Echo Bend last night (5/13). No wood or ice shelves to speak of. Skipped the meatiest rapid a quarter of the way through. This is a great after work run. Easy scouting and beautiful scenery. The rapids dotted with boulders definitely challenged my boating skills. Lots of rocks to run into with y...

Re: Moose Creek
Specifically I'm curious it there are sweepers strainers across the entire channel that require a portage, from the put-in at the end for Buffalo Mine Rd. near the gate (and just below where the ATV bridge used to be), to the Glenn Highway. A few friends and I floated it at the end of September last...

Re: Moose Creek
Is Moose Creek clear of wood from the put-in to the Glenn Hwy takeout, or just the upper section? Thanks

Aniakchak Bear Spray/Cooking
I have two questions for those that have done the Aniakchak trip starting at Port Heiden: 1) How did you obtain bear spray, and/or get some to Port Heiden? 2) What was your cooking system, and again how did you get it to Port Heiden (white gas? alcohol?) I'm trying to figure these things out because...

Re: Glacier Creek; Chugach Mtns.
Floated Glacier Creek Thursday and Sunday. No snow bridges below the put-in below the tram. Bring ice grippers. The trail is a bit icy. Cut some branches off a log across the creek as mentioned by rupe 5/11/13. No portages necessary as of Sunday. Low water at about 320 cfs. Thanks for the post rupe!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTVL6PQoAR8&feature=plcp Four of us packrafted Moose Creek (near Palmer, AK) from the End of Buffalo Mine Rd. to the Glenn Hwy. at 225 cfs. Flooding from the week before added a substantial amount of channel-wide sweepers/strainers to the creek. We scouted most of the...

Re: Willow Creek
Has anyone been down guardrail or redgate sections since the flooding? I'm most curious about wood. I also heard a rumor that the gauge is underestimating the flow as of late. I'm hoping to get out there now that the water level is down.

Re: Moose Creek
Floated Moose Creek for the first time today. Flow averaged 225 cfs. Wood, wood, and more wood We ended up scouting most of the creek because of what we saw on the drive in. We stopped counting at 10 channel-wide strainers/sweepers. I imagine the recent flooding did quite a number on the creek. In o...

Re: Anyone floated since the storms?
Floated Resurrection Creek on Saturday 9/8. No wood in the water looked new. Went from bridge near mile 7. Paddled a mile until the burn area and many stream wide strainers and channels. We portaged from here to just below the cascades. Between here and the Ress. Pass TH (where we took out) there wa...

RETURNED: Packraft Upper East Fork Chulitna
I found a packraft in the upper East Fork of the Chulitna River. If you think it's yours pm me with a description of the raft and your name so I can get it back to you. I know who it belongs to, but haven't had any luck contacting them.

Re: brushkana
I haven't floated the Brushkana before because of some very high water when I arrived. There is an established trail that takes off from the campground at the outhouse that meets up with the Brushkana a ways down stream; maybe 1.5 miles? I didn't follow the trail to the site of the old bridge so I d...

Re: Resurrection Creek
Walked upstream of the foot bridge at the Resurrection Pass Trail head for about 15 minutes before we put in. Fun Class II punctuated with class I. Some boulders to dodge here and there and some avoidable strainers around. Lots of wood in the river after the mini canyon ends close to Hope. One chann...

West Fork Chena River
Has anyone floated the West Fork Chena River? It looks like hiking from the Chena Dome trail onto a ridgeline and dropping to the West Fork where it meets Olympia Creek could be a good access. Not very familiar with the area, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Justin
