Re: East Fork Susitna - Clearwater Mtns

Just did this trip. Started walking on 6/24 at 11pm after driving from Palmer. Back at truck via bike shuttle at 3:30pm 6/26. We did not run the Class 3 drop on the EF Su. Great trip. We saw lots of Caribou and two bears and lots of mosquitos in the river valley.

Galen's trip summary

The trip began with a long drive from Coyhaique to Cochrane in a bus and then the next day a shuttle with a driver to our put in at Lago Quetro. When we unloaded all the duffels and began blowing up the boats our driver “Chilote” thought we were crazy, “ you are doing what? and going where?” That be...

Re: Curry to Clear Creek

Just got back from this trip. We did it almost exactly the way that Thad describes. We had no contact with any of the property surrounding Bacon Creek. Thad's route is the natural line down to the river. The folks at the rock quarry in Curry were nice and told us where to find the ATV trail that tak...

Palmer to Sutton--Bikeraft Loop

Yesterday I rode from Palmer (Farm Loop Road) up to Sutton on my road bike. Put in at Sutton and floated with bike down to bridge in Palmer. River is floaty with some big eddy fences. Rolled up and biked back up to Farm Loop where I live. Took about 4 1/2 hours total. River is at a good level, you d...

Jim Creek to Knik Glacier--A bikeraft classic

On Friday a co-worker and I biked from Jim Creek to the Knik Glacier in order to scout the Glacier Fork of the Knik River for a mountaineering course. The Glacier Fork was crossable by wading at the level 9.4ft but challenging. We explored the toe for a little bit, and then loaded the bikes on to th...

I did Hunter Creek down stream of the road last summer in early July. It was good for a half mile and then it got really brushy and braided. After that is was ok down into the Knik.

South Fork Matanuska

A friend and I flew into the toe of the Powell glacier with Matt Keller from Blue Ice Aviation (Sheep Mountain). Fun class II down to Caribou Creek. This is about a four hour trip. As rule of thumb I would recommend starting this float before 10pm when you have to work the next day. Interesting dark...
