good day trip off the dalton?

anybody have any suggestions for a good day trip off the dalton? i've been looking at thw jim river mainly because i am interested in doing some fishing as well, but would not be opposed to something a bit more technical either. i'm in fairbanks so don't want to drive too far north; something that w...

Re: A more waterproofer cruiser deck

tomahawk, any pics? and where'd ya get the heavy duty velcro? i've been thinking about modifying my cruiser deck as well and have been bangin around a few ideas. as with most anybody else with a cruiser deck, most of the water gets in through the left and right corners at the bow, where there's no c...

Re: 2010 Llama.. is my floor detaching?

not sure if anybody answered you yet or you figured out the issue, but i believe that i had the same "problem" you're talking about. turns out that alpacka uses this type of temporary tape when they're welding the floor onto the boat. i noticed that it started to collect a lot of sand and gravel on ...

Re: brushkana

thanks for the replies. i had walked downriver a ways below the campground, maybe 200yds below the public use shelter (the same trail you're speaking of ryan, one that runs along the left side if you're looking downriver), the last time i was out there (this was back in june and it was ragin') and a...

Re: brushkana

I haven't floated the Brushkana before because of some very high water when I arrived. There is an established trail that takes off from the campground at the outhouse that meets up with the Brushkana a ways down stream; maybe 1.5 miles? I didn't follow the trail to the site of the old bridge so I ...

brushkana

hello, anybody out there know of a trail where you can put-in on the bruskana; from what i've been told you can catch the trail off the denali hwy about a mile before you reach the brushkana campground (coming from cantwell end) and that this puts you below the whitewater. and is it class I-II for t...

Re: sand vs glue

i was able to get most of it off; the tape on the boat came off a lot easier than the tape on the skirt itself. and like you said, there was quite a bit of it. wish i woulda known this before i had even put 'er in the water. either way, thanks for the advice!

sand vs glue

i try to keep my boat as clean as possible, but sand finds its way into just about everything; and has done so along the seams of my sprayskirt. and it's working its way down, eating away at the glue, creating large voids. only a matter of time before it works its way down to where i'd have to have ...

Re: Fishing rod

i've been using ugly sticks for years. they're great rods, most models break down, they're cheap and have a good warranty. considering that you want something that can handle cats, i'd go with a light-medium weight rod. it'd be good for panfish and big bass as well.

Re: Fishing rod

you may be hardpressed to find a decent fly rod for $50; one that will last you any significant amount of time that is. all depends on what you'll be fishing for. when it comes to fly fishing, nothing is cheap. there are a lot of companies out there that can get away with charging lots of $$$$ simpl...

Re: fishing model and modifications

i have the unrigged and fish out of it all the time, both on rivers and lakes. like some have mentioned, it does tend to spin as soon as you take your paddle out of the water, but this can be easily corrected as long as you keep the paddle across your lap and dip the blade into the water whenever yo...

Re: East Fork Susitna - good trip for beginners?

you may also wanna check out an outfit up here in fairbanks that rents boats if you haven't already: http://www.alaskapackrafts.com/ they may have some info that you're looking for. It's kind of up in the air as to if I do that particular float this summer; if time allows, i'd love to give it a go. ...

maybe wanna check out the fairbanks paddlers association. they have a website and may be able to give you more specific info on that area, i.e. the water levels that time of year.

4day/3night float?

looking for any ideas about a good float trip that would last 4 days and 3 nights. i don't have the $ for an air p/u so that rules out anything like that. i'm in the fairbanks area (so preferably something other than the chena), but am willing to do some traveling to get there, nothing too far for w...

Re: Vacationing with my packraft in Hawai'i?

i spent a week in oahu in january and had i not brought my raft i woulda been kickin' myself. already mentioned, but the snorkeling is great with the raft. i simply looped my bowline around a belt loop, about 8ft of line; allowed me to hop in and out and move around a lot easier. surfed some waves a...

I am about ready to order an unrigged explorer and looking any input. Plan is to use it for some backcountry hunting and fishing trips so I am going to order it without the spray deck. Suggestions on paddles and clothing. Wondering what most use for their paddling clothing when on the water. Any inp...

can anybody out there share some of their experiences with packrafts? looking into getting one and will primarily be using it for high country lake fishing/travel and some river fishing/travel. i'm just over 6' about 200lbs and am looking for the right raft. i'm typically accompanied by my dog while...
