Re: Boat advice for a noob in the desert?
There is not much downside (other than a bit more weight on long hikes) to getting a whitewater capable boat right off the bat. I wish I had. And having packrafted the big rapids in the Grand Canyon in both decked and self-bailing boats, I definitely prefer a self bailer. Because if you do capsize (...

Re: The most forgiving whitewater boat? Nirvana vs Gnarwhal
Why is the gnarwhal so much better Mike? Because Mike is an Ambassador for Alpacka haha. For a very new paddler, the Gnarwal will be a little more forgiving (especially in the regular fabric, because it's less rigid.) But as a hardshell boater, I think you'll find the self-bailer Nirvana edges bett...

SOLD Feathercraft Bolder - Self Bailing in Olive 2015 Model
Retails for $1550 USD, selling for $1000 USD. Excellent condition. Will ship worldwide for actual cost. Re: Youtube Videos!
Hiked our way in for the first packraft descent of the beautiful Snake Indian River in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. Snake Indian Falls is a 394 foot drop but we pulled out in time. A cold, wet and snowy weekend in June, but well worth it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IAbNPoRc1c&feature=...

SOLD:Beautiful Blue Llama for sale or trade
So I sold my wife's boat to get her a smaller one and it turns out the "Yak" I bought was actually Llama. It's in SUPERB shape though. Not a single scratch on the bottom. Cruiser spray deck is in A-1 shape. No repairs or damage. Pre-big butt model is more maneuverable for creeking and more forgiving...

SOLD: Alpacka Denali Llama Packraft - Brown
So I decided to get my wife a raft that fits her better for Christmas. This one has only been used 4 times I think, only once in the river and never in whitewater. This pre-big butt model is more forgiving for river running than the new ones, and the brown is the nicest color (in my 100% unbiased op...

Re: Feathercraft Bolder
I had owned a Feathercraft Baylee for a couple years now and have put lots of miles on it. (I am too lazy to write something from scratch, so I copy/pasted this from when someone else asked me about the Baylee vs. Alpacka.) For me, doing a lot of first descents, the ability to hop in and out easily ...

Re: New Werner Packraft Paddles for WW
I'm not the OP, but having tried out the 4 Piece Werner Powerhouse in all sorts of whitewater this summer, I can say that it is AWESOME. Tough, stiff and powerful. The Sawyer feels like a toy in comparison. That said, I'd prefer the Sawyer or anything with smaller blades for flat water as the Powerh...

Re: Alpacka Scout
Get a used Yak. You will be kicking yourself if you buy the Scout for running rivers. Talk nice to your wife and explain how the bigger boat is a safety requirement. And that packrafts hold their value really well, so you can always sell it at any time. I got my Llama for $500; it had only been in t...

WANTED: Alpaca (small Alpacka)
Looking for an Alpaca (Alpacka's smallest full sized boat) for my wife. Prefer green or yellow but will consider anything. Spray deck not required, but it's fine if there is one. May also consider a similar Yak or old-style Alpaca if the price is right.
