Re: Redwood NP

Just wanted to report that my husband and I just did this trip as a day trip, in late March 2015. We lucked out on weather and had a sunny day. A really gorgeous trip, especially the hike down to the creek and the first half of the float. It took us a leisurely nine hours from Orick to Orick. Some p...

Re: Rogue River, OR

I have done this section of the Rogue three times in our packrafts, twice with my husband, once with a friend, one of those times also with an IK and a hardshell kayak. All around 2000 cfs in the summer. It was a great run! So beautiful, with lots of side creeks for drinking water (avoid drinking ri...

Re: Low Flow Chetco.

Thanks for a great video and write up! I'm excited to check out the Chetco one of these days. Beautiful solitude. Look me up if you guys come back to Oregon for more paddling.

Re: Southern Oregon

My husband and I are outside Ashland, and have taken our packrafts on the Rogue, North Umpqua, Metolious, and Klamath. The wild & scenic section of the Rogue was great--snagged last minute permits, packed light, and hitchiked the shuttle back to the put in at the end. We are thinking of going to Red...

Re: Redwood Creek (2014)

Thanks for the trip report. We might head to Redwood Creek this weekend, and it is good to hear it can be done in a day, depending on water level.

Re: Chetco River, OR

I've been doing some online research, and found some resources for Chetco-bound folks. Northwest Rafting Co. just got approved for commercial IK/packraft trips on the Chetco, so more info will become available as the trip is run. Give them a call if you really want beta. http://www.nwrafting.com/riv...

Re: Dirty Devil River trip prep feedback

Gorgeous place! Can't wait to get back there. Depending on where you go, watch for petrified dino prints, moki steps, mining "artifacts", arches, petroglyphs... And of course soaring canyon walls, tight slots, wildlife... Nice to get a burger and milkshake in Hanksville when you're done, too. Quicks...

Re: The Alpacka Raft Cargo Fly

I imagine a couple disadvantages of this system--wouldn't putting gear in your tubes decrease the boat's bouyancy (less airspace in the tubes)? And wouldn't there be a greater likelihood of rubbing or punching a hole in a tube because the tube fabric could be sandwhiched between your gear and a rock...

Re: Redwood NP

Great trip report--thank you! I look forward to heading to this area this year. Please share any other far Northern California trips you venture out on! An drop me a line if you make it as far north as southern Oregon. Happy exploring!

Re: NRS paragon pack?

We got a Paragon pack initially for my husband to carry his banjo at music festivals. It works fine for that purpose--a couple miles at most, awkward load that can't fit in a normal pack. We took it on a weekend packrafting trip, carrying a NRS drybag. 1 day hiking, 1 day paddling. Though the pack w...

Re: Southern Oregon/Northern Cali

Thanks, Gerhardt. We are headed to the Klamath River (class 2-3 section) this Sunday, as it also has water all summer (write me at aiyanaoutside at gmail dot com if you'd like to come along). The North Umpqua does as well (though a bit further north). I am looking forward to some nice low water runs...

Re: What are the abilities of a trip leader/guide

In general, I'd want to know about that person's experience with that type of trip (location, season, craft, etc), and with their experience leading and instructing (who have they worked with before, what size groups, can you get references?). Also important are experience and training in rescue, fi...

Southern Oregon (and far Northern California)

We live outside Ashland, Oregon and are excited to explore class 2-3 runs in the area, perhaps extending up to class 4 or 5 if the big ones are walkable. We'd enjoy hiking in and boating out, or rivers with a wilderness-y feel. We have previous wilderness and whitewater experience, but are new to th...

Re: Chetco River, OR

I live outside Ashland, and have been car camping on the lower Chetco, near Brookings. I also saw the Oregon Field Guide videos (from 2002 and 2012) on the Northwest Rafting Co. website (the forum program won't let me include the actual link!) I'd love to hike in the upper stretches (and boat out) n...

Re: Southern Oregon/Northern Cali

Just got our packrafts, so no trip reports yet, but also interested in hearing more about trips in this area. And maybe finding some local partners?
