Re: Looking for packrafters in Maryland

Hey Marilyne,
I'm going to be in the Harpers Ferry area on Labor Day weekend and plan to run the Shenandoah/Potomac confluence for 6 miles or so. It's a lot of bumpy Class III. I'd love to have some river buddies for it, so if you want to come down and join, send me a message.

This Weekend (7/16-17) Placer and Portage Rivers

Hey Alaskans, I'm using the Glacier Discovery Train to run those rivers this weekend. I'm up for river buddies if you want to join. It's train assisted for the Placer, but the Portage would have the option of shuttles. Otherwise I'm using the train for that one too. The Placer on Saturday, camp arou...

Mid July - Portage & Placer Rivers & Sactuary Packraft

Hi Alaskans and traveling packrafters. I'm planning two weekends of packrafting in Alaska. Would like to find river buddies for both. Let me know if you want to join for either of them and I'll send you specifics. It's scenic 1-2 float for both. Sat 7/16-7/17 - Spencer and Placer Rivers via Glacier ...

Re: Lower Gauley & New River Gorge

Good report. I haven't done those in a packraft, but I did do the Lower New and Upper Gauley on a guided raft last year. In 2013, I took my packraft down the Upper New from Hinton to Thurmond. It was mostly II-III bigwater rollercoasters spread out between flatwater. Pretty scenic, and no need to sc...

Mendenhall River in late June 2015. I paddled around the lake to check out the waterfall and glacier, then downstream into Class II-III rollercoasters.

Mendenhall River / Juneau AK late June

Hi Juneau area packrafters, I'm looking to run the Mendenhall sometime on the weekend of 6/27-28. Or another day close if it's a good bluebird day for sure. I'm thinking to start somewhere up on the lake, paddle around the waterfall and glacier, and then head downstream to one of the highway takeout...

Bikerafting the Shenandoah River, VA

I went out a few months ago on a day trip on the Shenandoah. It's easy going Class I-II. It was my first time bikerafting. Check out the video and blog post: http://wp.me/p3UCU3-pO

Some fun on the playwaves a couple weeks ago in East Race Waterway in South Bend, IN. It's a fun artificial whitewater run in downtown that goes for almost a half mile.

Re: Virginia? Ocean?

Yeah, you'll probably get blown around a bit trying to packraft on the coast. Probably not worth it. You'll have to go west towards Appalachia to find better stuff. There's a lot of Class II-III up there. The James River in Richmond, for example. Look up the rivers on the database on riverfacts.com ...

Re: New River Gorge

Yeah, that's a great river for it. I did the same run over a couple days from Hinton to Thurmond. I want to go back on more rivers in Appalachia next summer. Maybe take an Amtrak to Alderson and do the Greenbrier to the confluence at Hinton. Most people either use the big guided rafts or kayaks, and...

New River Gorge, West VA. July 2013. 12,000cfs, whitewater Class I-III. 79606341 Good times on the river. Mostly big wave trains, although I did go over a 4ft pour over at Brooks Falls and got thrown around on a hydraulic ten feet down. Unfortunately my camera was turned off for that. Here's the blo...
