Rio Chama, NM
Only two more weekends of release flows over 500 from El Vado dam. After Labor Day it's all over. I'm heading up this Sat for one last run. If anyone has never tried the Chama it's a great river! Pretty relaxing place up there too. Cheers.

I went to Iceland last March. I didn't have my boat for that trip. It was very, very cold but I couldn't help but think that I wanted to come back in the summertime with my Alpacka! May be too hardcore for small boats but such an amazing place. Water everywhere. My vote would be still be New Zealand...

I spent days surfing the beach in Mrytle Beach, SC. I guess the waves there were PERFECT for fun fun fun! I felt like a little kid playing in the waves for like, literally 8 hours or more. I love the way a perfect waves grabs ahold of you and drives you foward.

The Yukon Yak is a one person craft. (Unless the other person is a small child, even then, there isn't enough room for a second paddle.) Have you considered a Dory?

The last time I was in the ocean playing, (last month) and also being one who has never lived anywhere close to an ocean, I was briskly told by a local that the sharks feed at night. I quickly removed myslelf from the water and came back in the light.

Just a quick comment on those "REI" matches. Those have let me down BIG TIME in the past. A small Bic lighter is great. I have also started carrying a small striker and magnesium/flint tool and am really liking it.

Talk about FUN. I had a great time in Jackson. I felt honered taking the class with several of the pioneers of the sport. I wasn't gonna miss those four days for anything! I think the Upper Box is out. Much too dangerous. I do believe the only ones who run it are expert hard shell kayakers. Also, the entire Rio Grande at once would take a very, very long time. Well, I am about to find out myself about high water, me and a few others are hittig the Rio Chama this weekend. (April 18th and 19th if anybody wants to come with). All the waters near New Mexico/Colorado are high right now with record snowpack.
