For Sale: 2014 Alpackalypse

This is one of the early prototype Alpacalypses that was used to shoot the promo for the boat when it was first released (https://vimeo.com/112640615). I've taken out some of the original thigh strap/cockpit rigging and included a thigh strap kit instead. That version of the rigging was not awesome....

Re: Delorme inReach Lock Failure

Brad, I'm really glad to hear you are working on this issue with Garmin. Please let me/others on this forum know how we can help. I have a list of several more people who've contacted me with stories of mistaken triggers, and a couple of reporters interested in the story if any of that might be help...

Thanks for the replies. Delorme inReach Lock Failure

Hey packraftafarians, I'm writing to let you know I've had a problem with my Delorme inReach SE that has caused me and my parents a major scare and a large headache and put 8 Russian rescuers in a dangerous helicopter for no reason. I'm hoping you might be able to help me out by testing the SOS feat...

Re: Alpackalypse 2014

I think the experience of the Alpackalypse is a little different depending on whether you have a kayaking background or not. I don't, so for me, there was a steeper learning curve to get used to the new boat, and I was tipping more often than I would have in a Yak, and choosing the Yak for runs that...

Alpackalypse 2014

We were lucky enough to fondle the new white water boat last winter, and made this little tribute to our packrafting evolution:

Found Packraft on Eagle River

In a sweeper upstream a bit from the NF river access. Found on 6/30.

Let me know if it is yours or you know someone who lost a boat.

Re: Eskimo Roll in a packraft -- For Real!

We were lucky enough to get a quick run in with the new boat--it is awesome. It was easier to paddle over the tubes, and between the smaller bow and extended stern, instead of the bow riding up on bigger hydraulics and pitching us backwards, we could keep our weight more forward, and break through m...

Re: What do you do when you lose the cap for the dump valve?

i used 2 layers of Tyvek tape, no alcohol, no aquaseal, to make it home on a boat with no main valve. a bit of extra time to re-inflate, but worked out fine on the day trip. image you could git by on a longer trip too.

Re: Shoulder tendonitis/dislocation issues for Alpackas...

not really sure what conclusions i can draw about my shoulder. i did have an xray and an mri, neither of which turned up much. PT did help me alot, most of which was focused on strenthening my trapezious muscle, and stretching my pectoralis minor. Before visiting the doc, I took a month and went ice...

Re: Shoulder tendonitis/dislocation issues for Alpackas...

yup, i got shoulder problems. came during a few months hard packrafting and mixed athletics last summer (climbing, canoing, drunk wrestling). at first it was just a little ache, and i kept on using it, then constant dull ache, then sharp pain, until i couldn't sleep at night and couldn't do anything...

Re: Eskimo Roll in a packraft -- For Real!

To paraphrase Timmy J's post: Look, I'm just a regular guy, although, true, I have have paddled nearly every craft in the known universe extensively on sick whitewater bro, and now packrafts, which are squirrely, slow, and clunky, but good for remote access via hiking, and only good for that, never ...

we (mediafeliz) messed around with some webbing from the front grab loops to the rear ones in our vintage teal models (when there were more rear loops). i took them off after a swim when my leg stuck through the line. it was a pretty halfhearted effort and early on in our packrafting careers; i have...

Hey Roman, made it home and found a dvd with some Copper Canyon runs from sierrarios waiting. I had to mute the music and put on the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack, but they showed some ripe boating during the wet season. (no maps).

two gringos were recently robbed at gunpoint while hitching a ride out of Tubares. watch out for glassy eyed marijuana growers who conveniently live on either side of the military checkpoint on the way to Choix.

Re: In Search of A Dry Boat

Its true--I scalped my precious several months ago and haven't regretted it. I found the skirt great for ocean paddling, flatwater, bigger flow stuff, but we often seem to find ourselves in low flow steep creek descents that are as equally akin to canyoneering as they are to kayaking; i.e. constant ...
