Upper Middle Fork Flathead River

Post by whitefishbrandon » Wed Jun 03, 2015 2:32 pm

I thought I would share my video of my trip into the Upper Middle Fork of the Flathead River.

I hiked in with my packraft on May 19th, 2015 and the cfs reading in West Glacier was 4030cfs. I parked at Bear Crk and took the Big River Trail (155) to Lunch Crk (9.3mi). My plan was to hike to Granite and put in, but once I began to see the river I figured it would be best to launch at Lunch Crk.

This was my first time into the Upper MF, so I do not know the river. That being said, I portaged quite a bit thru the Spruce Park Series. If you haven't been in there, I highly suggest it. We are flying in with rafts in a few weeks to Schafer Meadows and can report more beta.

Enjoy!

Nice vid Brandon. Fun though Spruce down is, the best parts are upstream from where you put in! I've got some beta for you if you want to spoil the fun: http://bedrockandparadox.com/glacier-np ... guidebook/

I call the Schafer to Bear Creek section the lower Middle Fork, and Gooseberry to Schafer the upper. The characters are different enough that the distinction makes sense. For packrafting, the front country sections don't count.
