Spent 3 days paddling down a section of a remote river in the South East of NSW - Australia. I paddled my Unrigged explorer, Gus (Lizardboy) paddled his Denali Lama and Duncan paddle a yak (soon to buy an Alpacka after this trip I think). Grade 2/3 rapids, water level @ 0.9m (the minimum level) but running tannin stained but clear. Some lovely camp spots and very inspiring scenery. Easy and fun paddle. I would love to go back and do it when the level is up at about 1.5 hopefully....

This video is a photo compilation from multiple canyoneering and packrafting or raftineering adventures in Southern Utah. Destinations include Roberts Roost and the Dirty Devil River, The Muddy Creek Chute, Cataract Canyon on the Colorado, and a loop on the Escalante River. Definitely the hardest stuff I've paddled. Waterville Ledges are a hard IV.

Sailing with the Windpaddle is hard with one hand while trying to record with the other. I have gotten better with it since this vid.
This is at Wilsons Prom, the southern most point of mainland Australia 04/2010.

Creeking in Vermont. A in depth look(not really) on the differences between the packraft and the kayak on my second day of kayaking whitewater. May 6th 2010 on the Wells River.
Packrafting made learning to kayak easy.

What a fun looking paddle - however the helmet cam almost made me sea-sick!

Middle Fork of the Flathead River
On May 14, 2010 Moe Witschard and Forrest McCarthy flew into Schafer Meadows Landing Strip on Montana's Middle Fork of the Flathead River.
Equipped with packrafts, Moe and Forrest hiked 20 miles further up the River to the confluence of Strawberry and Gateway Creeks. They then spent 3 days descending the 48 miles to Highway 12.
When they began their trip the Middle Fork gauge in West Glacier was running at 2,700cfs. Three days later when they finished their float the Middle Fork gauge was running over 9,000cfs.
Due to levels of high water and low testosterone they portaged sections of Three Forks, 25 mile Rapid and all of Spruce Park.

Teton River
Over several million years the Yellowstone Supervolcano blanketed eastern Idaho in hundreds of feet of volcanic ash, or tuft. Nearby, the Teton River drains the snowy western flank of the mighty Teton Range and has carved its way through the Yellowstone ash creating a wild, turbulent and beautiful canyon.
On July 25, 2010 Derek Collins and Forrest McCarthy put in at Harrops Bridge on Highway 33 and navigated 18 miles of the Teton River to the Linderman Dam. With the exception of the Felt Power Plan they ran everything. The gage above Leigh Creek reported 350 cfs.

Not on Youtube, but on Vimeo as it is a HD video: http://vimeo.com/13878260 More aimed at beginners + interested folks & general thoughts instead of lots of action, but I hope you find it interesting nevertheless.

Selway River
Designated as Wild and Scenic, the Selway River is one of North America's premiere wilderness whitewater rivers. With headwaters high in the Bitterroot Mountains along the Continental Divide the river drops rapidly through granite bedrock. The banks of the river are overgrown with cedar, fir, huckleberries and ferns.
On August 28 and 29 of 2010 David Chenault, Luc Mehl and Forrest McCarthy, equipped with Alpacka Rafts, walked in 27 miles, from Hoodoo Lake to the Confluence of Moose Creek and the Selway River. Low water prevented them from putting earlier on Moose Creek. The Selway gage was reported 600 cfs. They did successfully float the entire 23 miles from Moose Creek to Selway Falls.

I used to do a little, but the little wouldn’t do it
"Ironically as they paddle more and more whitewater, their reward circuitry (for dopamine) dulls, which makes the easier runs less satisfying and drives them to still harder runs and bigger drops to compensate. They are essentially chasing the high of earlier, heavenly thrills on easier water. This is precisely what we see with chronic alcohol or substance abuse."

Three Videos
I haven't taken a packraft down a river since early June. Why the heck am I packrafting in Vermont anyway? Kayaking has taught me many things, but I'm better in the packraft. First time I've made it down the whole section of the New Haven Ledges (IV+) without a swim or a portage. Never tried to plastic boat it. Looking forward to coming up to AK next summer.
Took the packraft on the family trip to Italy...
Part I: some city walking and packrafting in medium swells (the footage doesn't really justify that)
Part II: more walking, packrafting under a cool bridge, in a cave, and some jellyfish
The new go pro is more user friendly, and has much better battery life.

Luc's Boof
Upper Willow, October 10, 2010
Luc Mehl is now battle rolling regularly in his thigh straps. Still, he wants to get a kayak in part to improve his paddling skills.
He's also hucking big drops with beautiful boofs:
I think this is my last video of the season.

4 days walking and packrafting exploration of the remote Wilderness Coast in far eastern Victoria.
Not much freshwater for drinking, ticks, snakes and scorpions, loads of bird species, lots of flowering going on and even a rare spotting of a Dingo on the beach. Wicked trip.

Karamea
The Karamea River runs through one of the largest, relatively intact natural areas left in New Zealand, Kahurangi National Park. The Karamea is a true wilderness adventure that lacks any road access and for most its length, even trails. The river is flanked by limestone cliffs, huge granite boulders and a lush mosaic of nakau palms, giant rata, a variety of beech trees. The Karamea is home to giant eels, great spotted kiwis, blue ducks and legions of sand flies.

Waiau River
The Waiau River in New Zealand's North Canterbury rises in the Spenser Mountains and flows south and east for 105 miles to enter the Pacific Ocean. Its generally hilly drainage basin, 1,270 square miles in area, borders the Canterbury Plains to the south. Packrafters can easily access the Waiau's upper gorges from Lewis Pass via a pleasant tramp along the St James Walkway.
There is a Maori legend associated with this river and the Clarence. According to the story the Waiau-uha (Waiau) and the Waiau-toa (Clarence) were respectively male and female spirit lovers living in the Spenser Mountains. For some reason they were transformed into rivers, the sources of which were not far apart. When warm rains melted the snows and caused floods, it was said that the parted lovers were lamenting and that the rivers were swollen with their tears.
