This is a good route, in my opinion. It took a group of five of us, including my wife Peggy and me together in an Alpacka 42 ten days to make the 200 or so miles.
There area bunch of beautiful steep Class IV-looking creeks between Walker Lake and Angiaak Pass, some pool-drop schist, some boulder-garden granite. We had a lot rain in June so the creeks were all high.
I thought the game trails up the east side of the Reed River to be amazing and the hot springs easy to find. We had some black bears that were far to curious for my taste.
We floated the Noatak down to Lake Matcherak and headed up the usual route to the Ambler.
I'd do this route again.
The Brooks Range and everything north of the Brooks Range. Includes the Noatak and Seward Peninsula.
