2018 Packraft Roundup - Camping Information

Post by gsollars » Sun Apr 15, 2018 5:50 am

Does anyone know if camping will be permitted at the Sunlight Mountain Resort location in the days immediately prior to the event? Or if there is any such camping nearby? I have not been able to reach anyone at Sunlight Mountain to get information.

Thanks!

Using the allstays camping app on my phone, it appears there are 2 camping places in Carbondale.

1. County/City Park: Gateway River RV Park and Campground

2. independent: Sopris RV Park (no tent camping allowed here).

Zooming out of Carbondale a little, I get 4 forest service campgrounds.

3. Avalanche Campground

4. Redstone Campground

5. Bogan Flats Campground

6. McClure Campground

Thanks much! Sadly, Redstone and Bogan Flats won't work for me, as hammocks aren't allowed, but ground dwellers are OK. Avalanche and McClure are probably the same deal. Those two don't seem to be reservable.

There's lots of public land where dispersed camping is allowed in the Roaring Fork Valley. The nearest free dispersed camping spots to Carbondale are about 4mi up Prince Creek Road
